Post Sandy Kendo Practice – November 3, 2012

New York City had just endured a major storm. We were still in the process of recovery. This was the Saturday immediately after the storm.

I had not been to Kendo in months. It was sure to be a long and arduous task! I wondered how I would get there. Would there be adequate transportation? New York City transit was in a state of disrepair.

When and if I got there, the five flights of stairs would be my next challenge.

The gym floor was certain to be cold and difficult for my bare feet.

These are but a few of the obstacles that I would have to overcome, but this is also the story of life…

The Value of Life…

How can you know and appreciate warmth without first experiencing the cold?
How would you know sweetness if you never tasted the bitter?
How could you know the value of life without having been close to death?
I pray you never come close to those extremes!

Life is Beautiful!

This is the thought that gets me through each day. Life is not stagnant. It is about change. I try to embrace that change every day, whether it is good or bad. What matters most is that we live and enjoy our brief time on this earth.

Life truly is beautiful!!!

No matter how we try to describe it, Life is Beautiful!
We are constantly challenged.
Sometimes we stumble, sometimes we succeed.
We experience happiness and sorrow.
We experience pleasure and pain.
Regardless of our achievements, God (SWT) accepts our return.
Al-Hamidullah!
